The Philharmonic Orchestra of the Arts has completed eighteen years and has established itself as a musical reference that has influenced new generations of talent and audiences. As part of this commemoration, it presented 'Luka and his Other Half', a production that denounces the impact of machismo and violence on women's lives.
The music of the show was created by Iván Torres Salguero, aka DJ Van – T, with choreography by Israel Sanabria, costumes by Mauricio Arizona, makeup by Brenda Castro, and lighting design by Sara Alcántar. The work was presented at the Benito Juárez Theater in Mexico City and featured a diverse cast.
The orchestra continues its trajectory of over 800 concerts, offering high-quality music and educating the public. In a special gala, they will perform works by Stravinsky and Vivaldi on March 21 and 23 at the Ollin Yoliztli Cultural Center. The conductor, Enrique Abraham Vélez Godoy, highlighted the importance of continuing to bring music to more hearts.
On another note, in commemoration of the 50th anniversary of Dmitri Shostakovich's death, the National Opera Company will premiere 'Lady Macbeth of Mtsensk' in the Main Hall of the Palace of Fine Arts. This opera is a denunciation against macho violence and the oppression of women in patriarchal society.
Additionally, the Cabaret Loaria Kids company will present a musical proposal starting March 22 at the Benito Juárez Theater. The story of 'Luka' addresses the pressure of society on a child to renounce his tastes and identity. Talia Loaria, the director of the company, was inspired by personal experiences to address these themes.
In the context of these artistic works, reflection is invited on the importance of equality, freedom, and respect. Tickets are available for both shows, showcasing the commitment and passion of the artists for their work.
